Mellow Yellow exhibit and Valentines Cards

2016 is here! After much holiday celebrating with  family in the U.S. I was excited to come home to some great news to kick off the new year with. My friends at Frankfurt’s Mellow Yellow Café were kind enough as to offer me a chance to show some art in their lovely café.  You can now go see some of my paintings currently there on display until the end of February. If you haven’t been there yet and you live in Frankfurt you should definitely plan a visit soon. Mellow Yellow serves the most delicious cakes, cookies and other goodies (the Börek are my favorite) which you can enjoy in an inviting atmosphere.  Whatever you order, it’s sure to be super tasty and the best part is that you will always be served with a smile. Escape the cold weather, stop in for a coffee served up by the owner, Belgin and enjoy the view offered by my “film scene” paintings and the Bethmannpark across the street. You can visit their Facebook page here and their Instagram here.

Lets not forget Valentines Day

I’ve also been busy creating some printable Valentine cards to help celebrate the upcoming holiday. Creating them took me back to my grammar school days when we would make little mailboxes for receiving valentines and set them on our desks. Back then, I would love filling and passing out out my valentines to all my classmates and then seeing which ones I received from them. If you want some cute Valentines you can print and cut out with your kiddies you’ll find these in my Etsy shop, CynthiaKatzDesign. They make a great craft to do together with your children or maybe you just like the idea of a more handmade sort of card to give to your sweetie.

Wishing you a happy Valentines day with your friends, family and loved ones <3.

Painting new beginnings

Introducing, my first painting of the year …  yeah, yeah – I know it’s been over two months since the new year started but I just didn’t get around to introducing it and anyway it has good intentions for the whole year. I wanted my first painting of the year to be one that celebrates looking into the future with excitement!

This painting is based on a photo I took of my sister one New Year’s eve that I’ve always liked because you can see total excitement and joy radiating from her face. It’s just so sparkly and full of happiness I love it! What I like so much about the photo is that she is laughing with her eyes – her eyes are actually twinkling with delight and I hope that I was able to capture this essence in my painting.

I decided to try out silver paint here for the first time ever in the background – I thought that  just maybe it would bring out that inner shine I saw in her. You can see the effect in different lights above. This beautiful moment captures exactly how I wanted to start this year and the feeling I wanted to carry throughout.

Not sure what to call it yet. Maybe Cheers or just Waiting (Expectations). What’s your opinion? I hope your year has been as full of cheer as my painting! Please leave a comment about what you think of my painting. Did you like the silver? Let me know.
